Workshop of Mediterranean Alliance of Think Tanks on Climate Change, co-organized by IMAL

Last week, the think-tank IMAL was pleased to co-organize the annual workshop of the Mediterranean Alliance of Think Tanks on Climate Change ("MATTCCh"), co-hosted with ECCO think tank in partnership with Sürdürülebilir Ekonomi ve Finans Araştırmaları Derneği (SEFiA) and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security.


Open to think-tanks working on climate-related policy challenges in the Mediterranean region, this Alliance was launched on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean Green Week in 2024 in Istanbul, Turkiye, following the original mandate from the 2023 "MedCOP" in Tangier, Morocco.


As part of this session, participants developed common strategies to bridge the science-policy gap in the Mediterranean region, across issues of mitigation, decarbonization, and net-zero, issues of resilience, adaptation, and loss and damage. and issues of international cooperation and the means of implementation, notably finance. 


Other participating think-tanks included: Arab Reform Initiative, Carboun Institute, CREAF, E3G, ECDPM, eco-union, Elcano Royal Institute, Ember, European Institute of the Mediterranean, Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association - EMEA, IICEC - Sabancı University Istanbul International Center For Energy and Climate, Natural Resource Governance Institute, Policy Center for the New South, TEPAV | Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey, and ZERO - Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável.
